KJZZ Phoenix: Maricopa County election officials warn of long lines, delayed results on Election Day

Greg Hahne of KJZZ Phoenix reports on election officials’ warnings about delays in the Arizona November General Election.

Maricopa County election officials are warning that higher voter turnout and a two-page ballot will lead to longer lines and delayed results come November.

They estimate an electorate of about 2.5 million people, with 79 contests per ballot on average across all Maricopa County precincts.

As Elections Director Scott Jarrett told county supervisors on Monday, up to 900,000 voters could visit polling places on election day.

“At the end of the day will be the longest period, having lines on average at every single one of our voting locations be around 15 to 20 minutes,” Jarrett said.

Arizona’s ballots for the November General Election are set to be two pages, front and back. The last time it was two pages was 18 years ago.
