WJFW: Election Officials say they are prepared as election season heats up
Lily Alsteen of WJFW reports on election officials’ assurances that they are prepared for the upcoming election.
As Election quickly approaches, Rhinelander citizens are eager to cast their votes. City Clerk, Austyn Zarda, is thrilled to oversee the upcoming election.
On a daily basis, Zarda checks Rhinelander’s ballot box to document any new ballots that have been dropped off.
“It’s as secure as putting it in the mailbox or dropping it right off with the city clerk.” Said Zarda. “I check this box multiple times a day and we have our own tracking system.”
Zarda documents the ballot, drops it off to deputy clerk Moria King who updates an online database and one of them brings it inside a safe. Then voters can go to myvote.wi.gov, search their name and confirm the ballot has been received.
“I want to ensure voters that voting by mail whether you drop it off in the mailbox give it to your post man, give it to the clerk, or put it in our drop box, that it is as secure as it possibly can be.” Said Zarda. “And their vote will be counted on election day.”534 absentee ballots have been sent out to Rhinelander Voters. So far, 17 have been returned.
Zarda is confident everything will run smoothly now through November.
