WQOW: Local officials taking steps to ensure election integrity

Tuesday October 15, 2024 · 9:39 AM

Toby Mohr of WQOW reports on Wisconsin local election officials’ attempts to ensure election integrity.

The election is less than a month away, and right now, local officials are working to make sure the election is safe.

Eau Claire County clerk Sue McDonald said leading up to election day, all voting machines undergo testing of accuracy and security.

They’ve also increased staff training on voting regulations and security at polling places.

After election day, the county results go through an audit, which hand counts 10% of ballots counted by voting machines to check their accuracy.

Both the voting machine testings and the election audits will be open for people to watch if they have concerns.

“We do thoroughly check all of this equipment before and after through these testing situations that are open to the public,” said McDonald. “So anybody is welcome to come and see how that is and if they have questions at the time they’re welcome to ask and observe how this process is done to verify that these results are accurate.”
